Clinical Director of Emergency Medicine, Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital
The Director of Emergency Medicine, Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital leads and manages the Emergency Medicine team enabling high quality, contemporary specialist services for optimal patient outcomes. The Director of Emergency Medicine will provide and support training of clinicians across multiple disciplines to achieve quality education and safe clinical practice. The position is responsible for maintaining safe, effective and professional emergency patient/client care within the Emergency department of Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital; fulfilling the Hunter New England Local Health Districts (HNELHD) strategic and operational plans and commitment to Excellence, every patient, every time. The director will be responsible for ensuring that the medical workforce is appropriately qualified and managed in a manner which facilitates adequate supervision of junior staff whilst further developing the departments’ training and education profile within the allocated resources. This includes oversight of the staff profile, performance review, recruitment and rosters (which may be delegated to other positions/ portfolios to operationalise).
The director will be responsible for contributing to the development of systems and processes which deliver timely, safe patient care - to improve patient flow and treatment times, as well as developing strong relationships with other key stakeholders to improve service provision within the allocated budget. The director will be required to perform administrative tasks relevant to the role, including the timely management of complaints and active participation in relevant meetings, and quality initiatives. The director may also be required to represent the department or hospital as required.
The position offered provides 0.25Fte additional director administrative time, with non-clinical of 0.25 FTE and clinical hours 0.5 FTE up to the agreed 1.0FTE.

Key Accountabilities
• Provide best practice evidence based clinical services to achieve quality patient outcomes.
• Undertake supervision and education within the clinical environment of junior medical staff and other relevant staff to foster safe clinical practice.
• Utilise information systems to enable informed decision making and care planning.
• Communicate with staff and clinicians to ensure quality and continuity of care.
• Actively participate in risk management and quality programs to improve organisational processes and own practices.
• Comply with relevant legislation and regulations, NSW Ministry of Health policies and HNELHD procedures to assist in meeting Activity Based Funding, Commonwealth and State targets.

Selection Criteria

1. Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist (Emergency Medicine), and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
2. Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine
3. Demonstrated recent clinical experience in (Emergency Medicine) at the role delineation of the service (5)
4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team
5. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills
6. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
7. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
