Reporting to the Group Communications & Investor Relations Director, you will have critical responsibility for the execution of Boral’s government relations strategy from development to implementation and you will lead Boral’s team of community stakeholder relations managers.

Through Boral’s government and stakeholder relations activities you will help to deliver Boral’s business and corporate objectives, enhance Boral’s reputation and deliver value. You will visibly demonstrate Boral’s values to internal and external stakeholders and display integrity, respect, commitment and the highest professional standards.

The preference is for this position to be based in our Sydney office.

Your responsibilities will be broad and will include:

  • Develop and execute a government relations strategy and oversee Boral’s community stakeholder relations strategy, to help deliver Boral’s business and corporate objectives, enhance Boral’s reputation and deliver value.
  • Build relationships within Government to help strengthen recognition that Boral is a great Australian business and a supplier of choice.
  • Align Boral’s government and stakeholder relations plans and activities to create efficiencies, manage risks, take advantage of new opportunities and create value.
  • Monitor and advise Boral’s leaders of changes, challenges or trends in the external political environment
  • Work with Boral’s CEO, senior leaders, Boral’s businesses and functional areas to maintain a government engagement and responsibility matrix to manage relationships and align activities – including interactions with government as a supplier, customer, regulator and in setting policy.
  • Maintain a governance framework for government and stakeholder relations.
  • Prepare position papers and draft government communications to support the strategy as required.
  • Work with Boral’s Indigenous Workplace Relations Manager and other stakeholders to strengthen Aboriginal community stakeholder relations and contribute to the delivery of Boral’s Reconciliation Action Plan.

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing a government relations strategy
  • Experience in working with C-suite teams in a corporate government relations role or a related role such as leading an industry association and/or working in relevant parts of government
  • Experience in community stakeholder relations as a practitioner or consultant is highly desirable.
  • Extensive applied knowledge of the Australian political and policy environment.
  • Significant experience engaging with politicians, bureaucrats, policy makers, senior industry advisors and trade associations.
  • Strong commercial acumen and experience working in a complex environment.
  • Strong networks and relationships at a Federal and / or State Government level,
  • Proven ability to work well with a broad range of stakeholders and effectively collaborate, influence and deliver results.
  • Good knowledge of the building and infrastructure sector
  • Team leadership experience
  • University qualification and/or postgraduate (Masters) is preferred; disciplines include Business, Arts, Political Science, Economics, Communications, Science, Engineering and/or Law
