We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Career Medical Officer to join our specialist team and help develop the Emergency Medicine Services at Bowral and District Hospital.

What You'll Be Doing

Provide clinical management and treatment of patients in a SWSLHD facility under your care. This care will be provided within the clinical privileges granted by the CE on the advice of the SWSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.

Assist in the provision of the Emergency Medicine service at Bowral & District Hospital through medical management, clinical direction to and collaboration with other ED and facility staff, as well as clinical care for ED patients.

The CMO provides high quality experienced clinical service to the Emergency Department. The personal development aim is to develop the skills and knowledge needed to operate independently as an Emergency Department medical practitioner. This can be achieved through structured and supervised observation of, exposure to, and management of patients, as well as participation in ED education and quality assurance activities.

How To Apply

To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria as thoroughly as possible.
  • Current Medical Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA), or eligible for same
  • Previous experience in the assessment and management of Emergency Department patients and a broad range of medical experience
  • Proficiency in airway management and advanced resuscitation skills
  • Proficiency in central venous and arterial line insertion
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, exercise independent judgement and problem solving navigating a complex and competing priority work environment to provide diagnostic and management decisions that support delivery of high quality emergency medicine service
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) including relevant computer skills and the ability to initiate and communicate effectively and respectfully with patients and their families regarding treatment and progress and also with other medical practitioners and staff involved in the patients care
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in Emergency Medicine (ie ALS, APLS, ELS course completion)
  • Evidence of ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other staff and practitioners and in a multidisciplinary health care team
