Your role:

Like all Australian communities, the Army operates within a formal law and order framework. As a member of the Military Police your task is to protect and uphold that framework.

Whether it's on an Army Base, out on exercise, or overseas on an operation, you'll help maintain military effectiveness and the reputation of the Army, through general policing, mobile support, and if necessary, detention of those breaking Australian Defence Force and/or civilian laws.

You'll learn to operate with initiative in a team environment, carrying out duties that include policing of bases, to working in a field environment on tasks such as traffic control and protecting our forces through the assessment of potential threats.

This is a policing and security role with many rewarding dimensions and excellent development opportunities where no two days are the same.


Following your initial military training in Wagga Wagga and employment training in Sydney, you could be posted to one of the many Army bases and units across Australia, depending on your specialisation.

If you are interested in this full-time role, but have specific requirements in relation to your start date or location, you may be eligible to take advantage of one of the Army’s flexible enlistment pathways developed for females:

  • Recruit When Ready – may be available if you demonstrate high potential when interviewed and are keen to join as soon as possible. It lets you start at a time that suits your personal circumstances.
  • Recruit to Area – may be available if serving near a specific location is required for reasons such as family commitments. It facilitates your first posting near your home or desired place. It can be accessed after completion of recruitment and initial employment training.


In the Army you'll get paid a competitive salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications. Upon commencing training, your starting salary will be approximately $50,145 per annum plus 16.4% superannuation and your pay will increase as you progress through training.

On completion of your initial military training and initial employment training, you could earn $70,417 per annum plus generous super.

For this role, you must be an Australian citizen, over 17 at the time of enlistment and have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics.
