The Canberra Times seeks a talented and tenacious reporter to join its team covering the public service and federal politics.

The successful applicant for this role should have experience in researching, analysing or reporting on government and matters of public policy. An ability to understand and present data is highly desirable.

Your journalism will serve the discerning readership of The Canberra Times in the national capital as well as the nation-wide audiences of Australia's largest independent news publisher, ACM. The Canberra Times and ACM's 13 other daily newspapers in NSW, Victoria and Tasmania are the Trusted Voice of the major population centres they serve. They are part of a print and digital network of more than 160 titles that stretches into every state and territory. This role sits within the public sector team, which works with reporters based at federal parliament to gather, develop and publish compelling daily reading -- breaking news, insightful analysis and thoughtful commentary -- on federal politics, the public service and government policy.

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • Excellence in crafting compelling, accurate and balanced writing to a high standard of spelling, grammar and style.
  • Proven skills in filing for digital platforms and tight deadlines.
  • A track record in creating quality journalism and collaborating as part of a team.
