About The Role

We seek a customer-focused and team-oriented Legal and Governance Officer who is looking to join a dynamic team that focuses on individual career development in a supportive and energetic environment.

This position is responsible for overseeing statutory compliance and governance within Council.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as Freedom of Information Officer to manage FOI requests;
  • Maintain and update Council's extensive delegation instruments to enable sound decision-making;
  • Prepare authorisations for officers with legislative responsibilities;
  • Maintain public registers;
  • Assist with managing Council's policies including policy reviews and internal and external publication;
  • Assist with a range of administrative law and governance matters including privacy and Council's compliance with the legislative requirements of the Local Government Act 2020; and
  • Assist with a range of legal matters, including drafting and reviewing agreements and contracts, and providing advice.


About You

Our Corporate Counsel team is small and close-knit, so we are looking for an individual who shares our team ethos of being collaborative, collegiate and committed. This is an ideal position for someone who wants to progress and advance in their role, as we provide the room and encouragement to do so.

The Following Is Also Required
  • Bachelor of Law or equivalent tertiary qualification in law;
  • Experience managing FOI requests;
  • Experience in providing governance or legal advice in a government or highly regulated environment
  • Experience interpreting and applying legislation, systems/process analysis and development, and preparation of advice, reports and legal documents
  • Experience drafting and reviewing contracts not essential but will be well regarded
