This is a critical and diverse position that oversees media, PR and government relations from a strategic and operational perspective. The role will manage key relationships across multiple areas of government, as well as engaging with a variety of other external stakeholders to protect the organisation's reputation and brand.

Optus Stadium provides WA with a world class venue to host major sports and entertainment events. The multi-purpose Stadium and the surrounding Stadium Park is open 365 days a year and has been designed with a fans-first focus. The VenuesLive management team is responsible for operating the Stadium and is committed to growth and innovation in the areas of venue management, event delivery and catering services.


The Head of Communications and Government Relations reports into the CEO and and works closely with the General Manager of Commercial. Key components of this position are:

  • Create and implement a strategic communications plan that incorporates the business' long-term objectives
  • Media advisor to Chief Executive Officer
  • Maintain, leverage and continually develop a pre-existing media network in the best interests of the organisation
  • Work across the organisation to implement tactical communications strategies that support activities of individual departments
  • Build and maintain relationships across both sides of politics, industry and government
  • The principal contact for crises communications, issues management and media enquiries
  • Responsible for all corporate editorial content across traditional and digital channels
  • Manage Charity Program


The successful candidate will have an extensive background in supporting the brand and reputation of a business that is regularly in the media spotlight, having worked closely with the Executive team.

The individual must be able to demonstrate the ability to deliver from a strategic and hands-on perspective in a high-volume environment.

They will come with a strong, long-standing WA media network, with a track record of successfully managing crises' and also delivering positive stories in a timely manner aligned to brand strategy.

Relationships with the Government and Opposition are essential. The Head of Communications and Government Relations will have pre-existing networks across State Government and experience in supporting government Ministers.
