How will I help?

The purpose of the role is to support the 2nd Line Monitoring and Surveillance function to develop and undertake planned and ad-hoc monitoring activities focused on the Westpac Institutional Bank. You will be responsible for building and maintaining the governance structure of the department, assisting with next–generation surveillance updates and developments, conducting in-depth reviews, as well as periodic qualitative reviews. This ensures compliance risks are managed within appetite.

The manager will support in driving “next generation” monitoring and surveillance strategy and framework, to provide the most efficient and insightful risk identification, with a focus on Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB). You will maintain the framework, policies, procedures, document libraries, model depositories, training register and meeting minutes whilst contributing to a strong team culture and spirit of innovation within Westpac’s Monitoring and Surveillance to ensure the ongoing improvement and refinement of a cutting-edge function.

You will provide ongoing review of broad Key Risk Indicators to identify events that warrant deep dives, with a focus on Commodities, FX, MMKT transactions, fixed income and derivatives. Furthermore, you will assist with in-depth reviews on key risks, with flexibility to devote sufficient time to identify more systemic behaviours whilst ensuring significant risks are identified with maximum efficiency, comprehensively investigated and promptly escalated.

What do I need?

The successful candidate will bring relevant experience in trading, forensic accounting or compliance related roles (including monitoring or a related assurance discipline). You will have knowledge of Financial Markets Instruments and trading (e.g. FX, Commodities, MMKT transactions, Fixed Income). Exposure to monitoring/ surveillance tools including E-communications tools and/or analytics products is highly advantageous.

You must have strong verbal and written communication skills including demonstrated ability to independently manage internal and external relationships. Your ability to influence and work in a complex and changing environment will see you successful in this role.
