Join a busy department with significant high acuity and trauma cases

  • Department supportive of training and development
  • 30,000 presentations seen annually
  • Attractive beach or country lifestyle on offer

The Position

As an Emergency Medicine Consultant joining one of the busiest departments in the region, you will enjoy the challenge of managing and treating the varied presentations. Joining a multidisciplinary team, you will have the skills required to manage critical care patients for extended periods due to there being no Intensive Care Unit within the hospital. You will also have the ability to support junior staff and Senior Medical Practitioners by offering the guidance and training and by assisting with their education as the department supports candidates completing the Diploma and Certificate of Emergency Medicine, as well as a training registrar.

The Hospital

This regional hospital offers various services including the busy Emergency Department which sees a significant number of high acuity and trauma patients. With approximately 30,000 presentations being seen annually, the department is considered a Regional Resource Centre, taking referrals from across the region. With an admission rate of 20%, there is a 30% paediatric load and due to there being no ICU or Mental Health Unit, additional skills are required to manage critical care for these patients.

The Location

Based a pleasant drive along the beautiful coast from Perth, this regional city is surrounded by rolling hills from local farmlands as well as the Moresby Ranges which creates a picturesque backdrop. Situated right on the waterfront, activities such as surfing, fishing and wind surfing can easily be enjoyed, or a walk along the boardwalk at the water?s edge offers the chance to stop for a coffee, a meal or a chance to take in some of the art features the can be seen around the city.

There are plenty of schools in the area to choose from, including kindergarten and higher training options. There is also a range of accommodation options to suit all needs.

Essential Criteria

To be successful in your application, you must hold Fellowship with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM) and have AHPRA General Specialist registration. Alternatively, you will hold FACEM equivalent and be eligible for registration with experience from a comparable country such as the UK, Canada, United States, New Zealand and Ireland.

Enjoy the unique charm of this coastal city whilst working in a department that offers variation with its presentations. Apply now or contact Stephane at slevy@wave.com.au.
