The role

The Human Research Governance team (HRGT) ensures that the Institute’s human research is compliant with legislative requirements, whilst meeting its research objectives. It does this by promoting good research practices, providing training, advice and data management support to researchers, governance authorisation and monitoring of human research projects, policy and procedure development and management of human research governance information repositories.

The Human Research Governance Officer is responsible in ensuring that the Institute’s human research is appropriately assessed, authorised and monitored as well as to provide support to researchers by way of training and advice on ethics and governance matters.

Duties

In this role you will be expected to:
Ensure timely triage and escalation of items in the research governance inbox.
Review and respond to new project notifications and ongoing project reporting.
Assist with the development of new governance processes as required.
Manage existing human research governance information repositories (e.g. human research register, serious adverse events register, and Good Clinical Practice training register).
Assist with the development of new policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and templates as required, and assist with the ongoing review of existing documents.
Provision of advice to researchers for study specific issues (e.g. ethics management, breaches, adverse events, complaints) to ensure prompt remedial action and to minimise delays.
Skills and Experience

You will have:
Relevant tertiary qualification with extensive experience, including significant experience and/or training in clinical research, human research ethics and research governance processes in Australia.
Current certification, or willingness to undertake certification, in Good Clinical Practice.

Sound understanding of:
clinical research methodologies
institutional, government and ethics committee environments and human research ethics and governance processes
relevant requirements (e.g. ICH Guideline for Good Clinical Practice, National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research, Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research, Privacy Legislation)
strong IT skills, including in MS Office applications and database management; experience with RedCap would be highly regarded
excellent planning and organisational skills, including the ability to manage a range of tasks with conflicting priorities.
