About the Role

Provide a high level effective and confidential research administrative support to the Ethics and Governance Co-ordinator within the Cancer Trials Unit. Contribute to the efficient functioning of the Cancer Trials Unit by ensuring compliance with appropriate legislation, internal controls and management policy procedures.

  • Provide high level administrative and executive support to stakeholders (internal and external) including researchers, clinicians, sponsors and others on relevant ethical regulatory requirements and standards.
  • Maintain and demonstrate ability to apply up-to-date knowledge in the area including new developments, legislation and industry standards such as Therapeutic Goods Agency (TGA), Good Clinical Practices Guidelines, the NHMRC Harmonisation of Multi-Centre Ethical Review Initiative, NHMRC National Standards and the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research.
  • Assist the Ethics & Governance Co-ordinator as required for the co-ordination of the ethics and research governance related duties within the Cancer Trials Unit.
  • Have the ability to provide autonomous decision making, analyse issues, establish a course of action and adopt a pro-active attitude with minimal direction.
  • Assist in preparing reports and correspondence for the Trials Unit Manager as required.

The Cancer Trials Unit of the Princess Alexandra Hospital is dedicated to providing a high-quality service for the delivery of clinical research treatments for patients with cancer. The research conducted explores questions of optimal drug use, novel combination chemotherapies, targeted therapies, radiation therapy, new diagnostic tests, prognostic indices, best supportive care, molecular predictors of response and cost effectiveness. The aims of the Cancer Trials Unit are to offer patients with cancer access to new treatments or treatments that would be otherwise unavailable to them, and to contribute answers to important scientific questions to the cancer care community.
