Reporting to the Director of Medical Services, you will play an important role in further enhancing our emergency services that are provided at SERH by medical and nursing staff and at Hospital where we have a nurse practitioner led Acute Treatment Centre (ATC).

This position would also involve a role as Director of the Emergency Department. As the Director, you will use your expert clinical and management skills to provide the highest levels of care to the patients who access your service. You will balance your clinical responsibilities with developing the Emergency service and will take a leading role in clinical governance, service re-design projects, and assist in the recruitment and development of a high performing workforce. Development of district-wide telemedicine will also be part of this role. The creation and development of ACEM accreditation to allow for permanent ACEM registrars and post graduate fellows based at SERH will be an ultimate goal.


To be successful in applying for this role you will hold fellowship of the College of Emergency medicine and be registered with the Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. You will be able to demonstrate a history of clinical excellence, experience in clinical governance; medical workforce development and health services research.

  1. Evidence of registration with the Medical Board as a Specialist Emergency Medicine.
  2. Demonstrated recent clinical experience in Emergency Medicine.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  4. Demonstrated effective communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
  6. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
