Governance offerings include objective governance research and recommendations, and end-to-end proxy voting and distribution solutions. Institutional clients have long turned to ISS to apply their corporate governance views, identify environmental, social and governance risk, and manage their complete proxy voting needs on a global basis. ISS covers approximately 44,000 meetings in 115 countries yearly, delivering proxy research and vote recommendations while working closely with clients to execute more than 10.2 million ballots representing 4.2 trillion shares.

Overview

We are currently seeking a full-time Mandarin-speaking Research Analyst/Associate. This position will be permanent and based in Tokyo or Sydney for the research and write-up of analyses of economic proposals, including mergers, acquisitions, and contests for corporate control, for institutional shareholders of Chinese and Taiwanese companies publicly traded in the Greater China region and the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze corporate governance and financial information to process data and write research reports on publicly traded companies in mainland China, Taiwan, and potentially other Asian countries
  • Issue proxy vote recommendations for shareholder meetings of the companies listed in stock exchanges in mainland China, Taiwan, and potentially other Asian markets
  • Research and develop thematic research reports and regulatory updates covering Asian companies
  • Gain understanding of investment and shareholder issues through fundamental research, including analysis of corporate strategy and financial statements, and incorporating ISS' analytic frameworks and policy guidelines
  • Lead or participate in engagement meetings and calls with corporate executives, directors, and financial and legal advisors, as well as institutional investors, as part of research process on high profile or contentious shareholder meetings
  • Develop market overviews and generate research notes on developing trends, emerging situations and tactics, and other economically-focused topics for internal and external clients
  • Develop M&A analysis framework for a wider team to apply
  • Contribute to seasonal reviews, bulletins calls, and other client-focused research reports
  • Review the work, and contribute to the development, of other research analysts across functional teams and regions
  • Answer internal/external client/issuer queries on research reports and participate in discussions and development of ISS policy

Qualifications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Chinese (both simplified and traditional) and English
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as finance, law, economics, business, accounting, political science, and international relations, or equivalent experience
  • Master's degree in a related field or MBA or CFA qualifications or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in M&A, investment analysis and research or any related fields (We also welcome newly graduates for Analyst position)
  • Understanding of valuation, corporate transactions and capital markets
  • Deep understanding of financial and non-financial investors' concerns, especially the role of corporate governance from an institutional investor's perspective
  • Familiarity with SEC filings and disclosure formats and requirements of stocks listed in the Greater China region
  • Experience and knowledge of corporate governance and proxy voting issues preferred
  • Analytical and detail-oriented
  • Goal-oriented and comfortable with ambiguity and able to prioritize, anticipate, and deliver multiple, sometimes competing objectives under tight deadlines
  • Strong organization skills, teamwork and ability to work independently
  • Proficiency in the use of web-based and Microsoft Office applications
  • Must be eligible to work/ have full working rights in the county
