El2 - Outposted To Department Of Health

Australian Bureau of Statistics - Canberra, ACT

IT
Source: uWorkin

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Located in Canberra with time split between ABS and then Department of Health
  • EL2 ($127,028 - $146,843)
  • Permanent, full-time vacancy
The ABS provides an EL2 strategic outpost to the Department of Health to:
  • Strategically engage the Department on the development and use of statistics to enhance evidence-based policy and support the delivery of well-targeted programs;
  • Support initiatives to maximise the use of ABS, Departmental and other datasets, through analytics, integration and improved access; and
  • Support effective collaboration between the ABS and the Department so that both agencies are well positioned to develop responsive statistical solutions and capability.
The role is a Canberra-based position. Most of the time the outposted officer will be working physically in the Canberra (Woden) office of the Commonwealth Department of Health.

The key deliverables for the Outposted Officer position are to:
  • Strategically engage with the Department on current and emerging issues to identify opportunities for ABS to help the Department in enhancing and using information for policy decisions and delivery of programs – including instigating meetings between senior staff from the two agencies where appropriate to capitalise on opportunities and supporting these through effective briefings;
  • Refer current and emerging issues back to ABS to ensure the Department’s needs are understood and considered as part of the ABS Forward Work Program;
  • Proactively support the Department’s current and future information and analytical needs, including inviting ABS expertise as appropriate;
  • Support statistical capability building initiatives;
  • Support the development and management of Subsidiary Arrangements and Project-specific MOUs; and
  • Enhance cooperation between the Department and the ABS.
As this is a permanent position, and the expectation is that in time the EL2 will transition to other ABS/APS roles, the ability to lead and manage a team (including managing budgets and being accountable for outcomes) is also important.
