The Township is home to almost 8000 residents and remains the only Council in inner metropolitan Adelaide to have retained its ‘Town’ status. The Town of Walkerville is the smallest council in inner metropolitan Adelaide and covers a land area of 3.5km².

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Secretariat/Executive Assistant serves as the primary point of contact for internal and external matters pertaining to the CEO, Mayor and Council. The incumbent will be creative and thrive in a fast-paced environment that is performance driven, results driven and community oriented. The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise good judgement in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative and organisational skills; the ability to maintain a balance among multiple competing priorities; and must be able to work under pressure and handle confidential matters with the utmost discretion.

Key Responsibilities broken down:

Executive Support / Administrative Management

  • Completes a broad variety of administrative tasks for the Mayor and CEO including:
    • managing an extremely active calendar of appointments;
    • composing and preparing correspondence that is sometimes confidential;
    • arranging travel plans, itineraries and agendas as required;
    • compiling documents for meetings
  • Provides “gatekeeper” and “gateway” role, creating win-win situations for direct access to the Mayor’s and CEOs time and office
  • Demonstrating leadership to maintain credibility, trust and support with senior management staff;
  • Maintain sound records management practices for Council agenda’s reports, minutes and all Mayoral and CEO correspondence;
  • Prepare agenda’s, attend and take minutes of Council, Council Committee meetings and / or Subsidiary Board meetings


  • Certificate 3 in Business Administration or equivalent.
  • Expert in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point), Google Drive, Adobe Suite, and QuickBooks.
  • Experience in SynergySoft records management systems.
  • Experience in working in a compliance driven organisation.
  • Possess sound knowledge of the Local Government Act.
  • Political awareness, able to deal with sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • High degree of personal integrity and deal with matters confidentially at all times.
  • Ability to work autonomously and be self-motivated with a flexible work approach.
  • Strong organisational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritise multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Very strong interpersonal and influencing skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff and external partners.
  • Expert level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability
