  • VPS 5 or VPS 6.1 - $101,120 - $145,009 p.a. + superannuation (depending on experience)

About the branch and role

The Commercial, Property & Technology Branch advises government clients in relation to a wide range of commercial transactions with the private sector and other government agencies. Many of these arrangements involve substantial financial commitments by government, and the provision of significant infrastructure or services to clients.

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate lawyer with established commercial law experience to join the Commercial, Property & Technology Branch. Reporting to the Managing Principal Solicitor, the primary objectives of this role will be to:

  • Manage your own matters from start to finish, with support, and develop your client relationships;
  • Draft and negotiate a range of commercial legal documents;
  • Provide high quality and plain English advice on complex and challenging legal issues;
  • Undertake focussed and structured legal research and analysis; and
  • Present to clients and colleagues on a range of issues.

We'll empower you to contribute, build your own practice and client relationships and give you plenty of opportunities to develop your skills to provide practical and strategic legal advice to government. The issues we deal with are diverse and interesting, and the government context provides unique challenges to refine your skills.

About the successful candidate

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of principles and practice of commercial law
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex legal research and analysis and effective legal drafting of a wide range of commercial agreements
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and client relationship management skills
  • Knowledge of, or interest in, information sharing and privacy favourably considered
  • Knowledge of, or interest in, technology and technology contracting favourably considered
