This position forms part of the Parliamentary Reporting and Broadcasting Service (PRBS) which assists the Parliament, its Committees and Members to fulfil their parliamentary responsibilities through the provision of an accurate, timely, efficient and accessible report of the proceedings of the Parliament, Parliamentary Committees and other events conducted under the auspices of the Queensland Parliament, for example, youth parliaments. The PRBS also provides a video broadcast over the internet of the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly and Parliamentary Committees. The primary objectives of the position are to undertake high-speed mechanical shorthand writing and to utilize Computer Assisted Transcription (CAT) technology to edit the reports of the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly, Parliamentary Committees and other parliamentary events.

Duties and responsibilities of the position include:
- Undertake reporting duties, utilising high-speed mechanical shorthand and computer assisted transcription (CAT) software, for the Legislative Assembly, hearings of Parliamentary Committees and other parliamentary events.
- Edit reports that are produced.
- Assume full responsibility for the recording and/or reporting of committee hearings outside Brisbane utilising portable recording equipment and log noting software.
- Assist with the training of new reporters.
- Assist with the continuing development of transcript production techniques using various software packages.
- Undertake other duties as directed by the Chief Reporter (eg. assisting with the audio visual broadcast of parliamentary proceedings).
