JOB DESCRIPTION

  • 18 months of ACEM advanced training
  • Offers a supportive training environment,
  • One of Australia’s most iconic regional

The ED has accreditation for 18 months of ACEM advanced training, and offers a supportive training environment, with FACEMs on the floor from 0730 till 2400 7 days a week. Our ED trainees can also access rotations to Paediatrics, Anaesthetics, ICU, Tennant Creek (Rural and Remote Medicine) and Retrieval Medicine.

The Location

Our client is located in one of Australia’s most iconic regional locations. The town has even been singled out by a leading demographer as one of Australia's most cosmopolitan and vibrant towns with a young, transient and international population. Another interesting fact about the town is that it has the highest percentage of residents from the US of anywhere in Australia. This town is set to play an extraordinarily important role in the resources and tourism industries over the next decade as a de facto capital city of the interior of Australian.

The surrounding McDonnell Ranges are exquisitely beautiful, tall gum trees stand in the river beds, and we have blue cloudless skies almost every day. Camping, walking, and mountain biking are very popular. It’s a vibrant bustling tourist town, with ample activities to keep you busy.

The Hospital

This is a 189 bed specialist teaching hospital servicing a population dispersed over 1.6 million square kilometres. This dispersion provides unique and rewarding challenges in the delivery of a range of comprehensive health services. Opened in 1977 the hospital was extensively redeveloped in 2002 with further rectification work in 2009 and is complemented by a setting of superbly designed gardens and outdoor areas. The hospital is also accredited with the Australian Council of Healthcare Standards and has links to many external research organisations.

The Department

We provide quality protected registrar teaching for 4 hours a week (with separate retrieval service teaching), and highly are supportive of primary and fellowship exam candidates. We actively support your WBAs and roster supervised ‘in charge consultant’ shifts, as well as providing quality assurance shifts for skills development. You can also complete your paediatric log book as part of your rotation.

We are happy to accept applications for 3-12 months, including rotations from your home hospital. You may be able to arrange this with your DEMT or Director, and we can help facilitate this. We are also happy to accept applications from ACCRM registrars looking to undertake their EMC/ EMD. They have a robust teaching timetable with at least four different sessions provided each week. We actively look to make connections with researchers, allied health professionals, NGOs and remote health services.
