We are looking for Governance and Risk officer to help support and enhance the governance and risk function at the Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery Group (MWRRG). Reporting to the General Counsel, this role will be an integral part of Legal team, which provides legal, governance and risk support and services to the Metropolitan and regional Waste and Resource Recovery Groups.

We are looking for Governance and Risk officer to help support and enhance the governance and risk function at the Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery Group (MWRRG). Reporting to the General Counsel, this role will be an integral part of Legal team, which provides legal, governance and risk support and services to the Metropolitan and regional Waste and Resource Recovery Groups.

The Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery Group (MWRRG) is the Victorian State Government Statutory Body responsible for coordinating and facilitating the delivery of waste management and resource recovery across metropolitan Melbourne. MWRRG's vision is to create an integrated approach that incorporates social, economic and environmental considerations, creates connections, provides expertise to build capacity and knowledge, delivers policy objectives and outcomes and enables best practice solutions for councils, industry and the community.

What you will be doing:

  • Align MWRRG's Risk Management Framework to the Victorian Government Risk Management Framework and AS/NZS ISO 31000:2009.
  • Develop and implement processes, tools and systems to identify, assess, measure, manage, and monitor risks across MWRRG.
  • Maintain MWRRG's risk register.
  • Provide insightful reports on risk, trends and treatments and other matters to the Board, Executive Team and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor legislative compliance consistent with MWRRG's Legislative Compliance Frameworks.
  • Lead the implementation of policies across MWRRG and manage policy review processes across the organisation.
  • Coordinate the Statewide Risk Model for MWRRG and the six regional Waste and Resource Recovery Groups. 

 What you'll need to succeed:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Governance and Risk or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in governance, regulation, and operational risk management.
  • Industry, risk and compliance, legal and audit experience. 
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
