Position Summary

Downer Defence Systems requires a Program Management Professional to join a rewarding and dynamic Maritime Defence Program in a lead capacity as the Program Management Office (PMO) Lead. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the PMO office for the aggregation of system upgrades and required maintenance work packages.

The Role Will Involve

  • Responsible for the successful delivery of the PMO function on behalf of Downer Defence Systems, by defining an integrated program plan, aggregation of work into work packages, defining PMO reporting and governance systems and holding stakeholders accountable for their responsibilities.
  • Project oversight, including assurance that all aspects of project execution are conducted in accordance with the Defence Capability Life Cycle.
  • Provide Capability Life Cycle subject matter expertise and guidance to the customer.
  • Ensure that there are appropriate and effective governance arrangements in place, supported by comprehensive reporting and communication.
  • Working in close partnership with the Program Director and Senior Leadership Team to ensure high quality inputs, integration, and delivery of Defence capability.
  • Working with customer stakeholders and providing quality information and reporting
  • Positioning the Program team as a trusted partner.


About You

You have a depth of experience in either Project delivery or PMO Management, ideally within complex Defence Capability Life Cycle Programs. Experience as a Program 2IC will be highly valued. As a senior Project Management professional across Downer Defence Systems, we will look for the following capability:
  • In depth knowledge and application of Managing Successful Programmes (MSP), Project Management Institute (PMI), Prince II or a related Project Management framework, particularly relating to scope, budget, resourcing, stakeholder engagement, risk, quality, and controls.
  • Experience in the use of ASDEFCON templates.
  • In depth knowledge of the Project and Program life cycle.
  • In depth knowledge and experience of the Capability Life Cycle.
  • Ability to remediate Program issues through course correction where appropriate.
  • Experience in building trusted & valued relationships with project team members, customers & partners.
  • Must hold an Australian Government security clearance (NV1 level and above).
