SA Government agency seeks experienced Corporate Communications Manager for 12 months contract to deliver internal & external communications strategies

About the role

Our client, a SA government department, seeks an experienced Corporate Communications Manager for a full-time, 12 months contract with an immediate start. As the Corporate Communication Manager, you will lead a team of communications specialists to deliver internal and external communications for this SA government department.

Responsibilities and duties

Key responsibilities and duties will include:
Manage the department's external facing websites and communications channels by:
the development of effective corporate communication strategies or contributing to integrated communications plans.
liaising with the Media, Creative Services and Marketing Teams on the development of engaging digital content strategies to amplify key messages via the department's social media channels and external facing websites.
developing and implementing strategies to enhance website visitation.
assisting in the development of measurements to evaluate and report on the effectiveness of the department's internal communications activities, i.e. on the intranet, eDM's and website activities.
ensuring all channels are regularly refreshed with engaging content.
Lead internal departmental communications by managing the team responsible for:
managing internal communication channels, including the department's intranet site, Chief Executive communications and ensure the work of department's divisions is shared across the agency
managing whole of government communications channels, including alerts and across government emails in line with the policy framework.
providing communications leadership support to internal clients to enable them to meet their project objectives
assisting in the development of measurements to evaluate and report on the effectiveness of the department's internal communications activities.

Experience and skills

The skills and experience you will need to demonstrate include:

Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with people at all levels including senior staff in government agencies, ministerial personnel and organisations within the general community.
Demonstrated strong relationships with media organisations and proven experience in managing politically sensitive media enquiries and proactively managing media issues in a timely and effective manner.
Proven experience in managing politically sensitive media enquiries and proactively managing media issues in a timely and effective manner.
Highly developed communications skills, including being able to communicate verbally with a wide range of audiences and the ability to prepare communications documentation, including media responses and media releases.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, effectively prioritising to achieve all objectives in a timely manner.
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a team environment, providing reliable support to other team members and contributing positively to achievement of team goals.
Ability to be a self-starter and effective problem solver with strong drive, initiative, and flexibility with the proven ability to overcome the challenges of working in a government environment.

Qualifications and Special Conditions

Tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism or related discipline.
Prior experience in a high level communications role within government is required.
General Employment Probity Check will be required.
