About The Opportunity

We are seeking applications for the role of Emergency Response Supervisor & Safety Co-Ordinator at our Portland Aluminium Smelter.

The Emergency Response Supervisor & Safety Co-ordinator provides a key role in the Safety program for Portland Aluminium. The incumbent is responsible for providing proactive leadership, coaching and engagement, and supporting our site emergency response. This role provides expert safety experience, knowledge, and advice to the business! Working collaboratively with others to facilitate and co-ordinate the direction of specific safety policies, programs, and initiatives, including the site emergency response program, and meeting the objectives of the Safety Business Plan.

The Emergency Response Supervisor & Safety Co-ordinator will also work with people at all levels to systematically eliminate workplace risks and hazards utilising various techniques and tools including Human Performance (HP), training, systems management, and continuous business improvement processes.

About You

Our values – act with integrity, operate with excellence, care for people – are at the foundation of everything we do. To be successful in this role and to play a part in our ongoing success you will have:

  • Related qualifications, including Cert III Emergency Response and Rescue/or equivalent
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (Desirable)
  • Applied / Provide First Aid Certificate
  • Proven experience in the health, safety, and emergency response field
  • Familiarity with Alcoa systems desirable and / or emergency response with heavy industry
  • Proven support of site health and safety management systems
  • Well developed interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to lead and influence partners
  • Supervisory experience preferably within an emergency response or safety setting
  • Experience with ICM or similar investigative tool.

About Where You Will Work

Portland Aluminium Smelter is located five kilometres south of Portland, a vibrant coastal town in south-west Victoria, and approximately 360 kilometres south west of Melbourne. The smelter employs approximately 650 employees and contractors.
