The Role

The WHS Governance Officer Key functions include:
Providing work health and safety advice and support
Providing secretariat functions for the VCDFE and JCG Safety Boards including coordinating and developing briefing papers
Preparing briefing packs and verbal briefs to support Senior Leaders attendance at the Defence WHS Safety Board
Engaging with stakeholders across the whole of Defence and with external regulatory bodies
Reporting and analysing safety trend data

About our Team
The WHS team directly supports the Vice Chief of the Defence Force as an Officer under the WHS Act 2011 (Commonwealth) and the due diligence functions that this entails. The APS 6 WHS Governance officer position sits within the WHS team in Command Support Branch and is responsible for work health and safety governance activities for both Vice Chief of the Defence Force Executive (VCDFE) and Joint Capabilities Group (JCG). The WHS team role includes:

Developing and managing two WHS Management Systems,
Coordinating interactions with the WHS Regulator, Comcare,
Planning and coordinating WHS Audit and Training programs across Australia, including contract and budget related activities,
Managing a SharePoint web presence,
Developing and introducing new WHS approaches to the existing WHS Systems and
Contributing to the wider Defence WHS policies.

Our Ideal Candidate
In this role, the WHS Governance Officer will have preferably have demonstrated abilities in the following areas:

Collaborating with and influencing internal and external stakeholders
Representing a WHS team at WHS related forums
Trend reporting and data analysis using Microsoft excel
Well-developed writing skills including briefs, reports
Exceptional time management skills and ability to meet deadlines and
A good working knowledge of Work Health and Safety legislation
