Full Job Description
Situated just 25 minutes from the Adelaide CBD, the Mount Barker District Council services a diverse community with a population of over 35,000. The District is one of Australia’s fastest growing areas and its progressive Council manages an exciting portfolio of infrastructure assets including a new regional sporting complex and is planning a contemporary regional aquatic and leisure facility.

Reporting to the General Manager Infrastructure and as a member of the Council’s Leadership Group, this role leads the large Infrastructure Maintenance & Operations Team including civil works/services, public place and environmental services, fire prevention and emergency management, cemeteries, asset maintenance and waste services. Key responsibilities include:

leading, managing, mentoring and empowering the Infrastructure Maintenance & Operations Team including promoting and facilitating a customer service ethos, a culture of continuous improvement and a team-based approach incorporating innovation and change management;
managing programs, projects, maintenance services and customer requests for both the community and internal customers;
managing team budgets, writing business cases and managing contracts and contractors;
undertaking comprehensive risk assessment to ensure the safest possible working environment for all staff.

Applications are welcome from experienced contemporary operations management professionals with the project management, asset management and financial management knowledge required to be successful in such a role. Well developed leadership, people development and change management skills will also be required along with a keen eye for operational improvements to deliver value for money services to the community. The successful candidate will be empathetic, fair, composed and safety focused with the ability to deliver high levels of customer service within budget allocations. Previous local government experience is not essential, however experience in running a service delivery business in a related discipline is desirable.
