About ESTA

The Emergency Services and Telecommunications Authority (ESTA) is the critical link between the Victorian community and the state's emergency services agencies. It provides Victoria's 24-hour emergency call-taking and dispatch services for police, fire, ambulance and VICSES and manages the provision of advanced, operational communications for police, ambulance, fire services and the SES. 

About the role

Call-takers are the vital link between the public and the Emergency Service Organisations and are responsible for receiving and processing all emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and other agencies, including:

  • Answering Triple Zero calls and obtaining all the information required by following a standard sequence of procedures
  • Verifying the event location and accurately identifying it on a mapping system
  • Accurately entering all relevant information received into the ESTA Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for use by a Dispatcher
  • Process updates and further information as the event or incident progresses

ESTA Call-takers are trained to provide the highest quality of emergency response and are dedicated to the public during times of critical incidents that can often change lives. We are seeking people who can demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Multitask in a time critical environment, using computer software and equipment to quickly and accurately complete tasks
  • Types quickly and accurately
  • Works with speed and accuracy within established procedures
  • Consistently achieves results through effective decision-making and persistence
  • Communicates effectively by listening, showing appropriate empathy and adapting communication style to suit situation
  • Composed and calm in pressure situations and can demonstrate high levels of resilience
  • Able to demonstrate the highest standards of professional conduct and support for others
  • Learns quickly, enjoys developing capability and embraces feedback
  • Commit to a four on/four off rotational roster, including weekends and night shifts
