Manager, Media And Government Relations

Representing Transurban's largest number of road assets in any one state, New South Wales is home to ten operating motorways and one major project currently under construction, WestConnex, Australia's largest road infrastructure project.

As the Manager, Media and Government Relations, you'll be working across the NSW Business to help ensure that media and government relations are delivered in a high quality, consistent manner with a focus on proactivity wherever possible. You'll oversee the day-to-day management of media and government relations by playing a vital role in the management and execution of the strategy.

The impact you'll have:

  • Write and help tell the story of some of Australia's biggest infrastructure projects.
  • Work on planning and executing a communications and media strategy to support business and project objectives.
  • Be a point of contact for all media enquiries, including to and from government agencies.
  • Work with appropriate stakeholders to identify, plan and manage potential project and asset issues. This could include providing advice to senior managers and executive committee members.
  • Assist with submissions to Government as required.
  • Develop stories and ideas to be shared internally across Transurban to create greater awareness within the business about WestConnex and the NSW assets.
  • Managing incoming media enquiries, proactive media engagement, writing accurate media statements and briefing notes, liaising with Ministerial Offices, government departments and agencies, and early identification and reporting on key issues all within required protocols.

Talents you'll bring:

  • Experience working in media relations. Any experience working in a newsroom, political office or corporate environment would be highly regarded.
  • Significant understanding of government relations at a State and/or Federal level.
  • Exceptional writing skills with the ability to translate complex information into understandable terms.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management and skills to develop effective working relationships. Any current networks or relationships within government are highly advantageous.
  • Ability to develop credibility and trust with stakeholders as well as skills to negotiate, influence and gain trust.
  • Desire and ability to work under pressure and towards tight deadlines.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
