Government agency seeks exceptional Speechwriter to craft scripts that connect and engage with a range of different audiences and community groups


Our client, government agency, seeks an experienced Speechwriter for a part-time, 2.5 to 3 days a week, 3 months contract with an immediate start.

With a background in journalism, you will be responsible for writing speeches for a number of Ministers, with the ability to turn your hand at a variety of other writing tasks. These could include writing editorial contact from scratch, writing for the web, or corporate communications. You may even turn your hand at the newsletter, contacting stakeholders and writing great short stories to share.

Responsibilities and Experience:
Responsibilities and experience required will include, but are not limited to:

Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to write about complex concepts in an uncomplicated way
Creative, innovative and inspirational storyteller, who knows how to connect and engage with a range of different audiences and community groups
Able to craft a script that is personally and professionally representative of the speaker you are writing for
Ability to take direction regarding scripting guidelines, length of speech, specific topics to be covered, background information about audience, strategic aims etc
Ability to build relationships with staff across department and program areas, executive offices and Ministerial Offices
Exceptional attention to detail, sound researcher and fact-checker, demonstrated eagerness to hunt down the necessary information to bring a speech to life
A lateral thinker with an ability to synthesize complex material
Ability to weave various elements of a presentation together in a way that is both comprehensive and makes sense to the audience
Capacity to set priorities and meet deadlines, multi-task, coordinate and manage own workload
Ability to write effectively at speed and accurately
A self-starter, self-motivated with strong attention to detail

Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline e.g. in Journalism, Communications or equivalent
Previous experience within the government sector will be highly regarded
