Local government body seeks experienced Digital Content Writer to write, re-write and shape existing content for a new website redevelopment project

Digital Content Writer/Editor opportunity

Our client, a local government body, is currently seeking an experienced Digital Content Writer/Editor to join them on a full-time, 3 month contract based in the outer eastern suburbs. You will be responsible for writing, rewriting and shaping existing content for the new website redevelopment project.

Responsibilities and duties

Your key tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the review of existing website content and documents
  • Assessing existing website content on a page-by-page basis and across a range of categories.
  • Working across written website content, crosslinking, page metadata, images, documents, and other online components including visuals and interactive content
  • Review content to make sure it is accurate and written in line with the Writing for the Web guide.
  • Structure content pages to reflect how users read online and on different devices.
  • Make sure content follows Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
  • Make sure content uses plain English and inclusive language.
  • Make sure content has a strong base in SEO and is searchable and findable.
  • Use research and data to make sure content meets user needs.
  • Communicate the principles of content design throughout the re-write process.
  • Work with different stakeholder groups the organisation
  • Work with subject matter experts to get approvals/make changes to rewritten content.
  • Assist with content migration of approved content and documents.

Skills and Experience

The skills and experience you will need to demonstrate include:

  • Experience working as a digital content writer/editor within a local government environment would be an advantage
  • Demonstrated experience in online content production, specifically writing for websites
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of various CMS Platforms, specifically Drupal CMS
  • Demonstrated ability to write in Plain English and follow (and implement) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA
  • Demonstrated understanding of SEO, Google Analytics
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent grammar and writing skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • A self-motivated team player with a can do, proactive attitude.


  • Tertiary Qualifications in a relevant field e.g. Writing, Media, Communications
