About the role:

We are wanting to engage an experienced Data Governance Specialist to lead and manage data governance activities across the organisation. You will have responsibility for improving the quality and managing the protection of sensitive data and information assets. The role will focus on establishing an enterprise-wide data governance function including data policies, standards and practices across the organisation, to achieve the required level of consistency, quality and protection to meet overall business needs.

You will be reporting to directly to the CFO and the opportunity to work with our Ampol leadership team, the Board and other key business leaders.

We are located at our Sydney CBD office currently but will be undertaking a permanent office move to Alexandria mid this year. This is a permanent full-time opportunity.

Key responsibilities:

  • Establish, maintain and oversee a data governance implementation roadmap including strategic priorities for development
  • Establish and enable a data governance framework
  • Serve as a liaison between the business and IT to ensure that data related business requirements for protecting sensitive data are clearly defined
  • Develop & maintain inventory of the information maps, including authoritative systems, owners
  • Define indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements

About you:

You will have a strong skillset which incorporates both Data and Information Governance from a technical background as well as having worked in an environment where you have been required to consult, engage and influence business leaders and/or direct experience working for a consulting firm within Data Governance and Risk.

  • Bachelors and/or master’s degree in computer science, management information systems
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Data Governance
  • Experience in managing a Data Governance function whilst influencing senior stakeholders in developing and driving policy through an organisation.
  • Knowledge of industry leading data quality and data protection management practices
  • Knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection
  • Knowledge of data related government regulatory requirements and emerging trends and issues
  • Demonstrated consulting skills, with change management concepts and strategies, including communication, culture change and performance measurement system design
  • Knowledge of risk data architecture and technology solutions
  • Internally and externally recognized subject matter expert that influence the way things are done
