This is a unique opportunity to join one of Australia’s leading universities of technology, UTS, in the role of Data Governance Officer. The Data Governance Officer is responsible for coordination, delivery and supporting data governance activities across the University. The Data Governance Officer will assist the information/data governance team in the formation, execution and ongoing monitoring of the data governance framework, policy and standards. 


The role drives the coordination and maintenance of key data management activities and contributes to the establishment of the University organisational hierarchy, data quality management and improve the visibility of the University’s data and information assets.


In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating the resolution of data integrity and data quality issues with data stewards and the data management specialist
  • Managing central processes for identifying, prioritising and resolving data quality and governance issues and continually monitor data quality risks in relation to the data risk framework
  • Developing and maintaining the University organisational hierarchy and the processes for ongoing maintenance
  • Providing support for Data Stewards across the University, including coordinating support networks and developing schedules and other guidance material
  • Supporting the development of new capabilities to enhance our data governance activities and the UTS data Strategy
  • Contributing to development of a proactive, collaborative and maturing culture across the university regarding management reporting, data governance, data acquisition, metadata management and data quality management


With examples, please outline in a separate document how you meet the following five (5) key selection criteria points below:

  1. Demonstrated ability to effectively influence and embed new business processes across the University 
  2. Demonstrated curiosity and an ability to innovate and develop new capabilities for advancing contemporary data governance, management reporting, analytics and data modelling. 
  3. High level of computer literacy and competence in statistical and database application software and enterprise reporting tools (Microsoft BI suite or equivalent) and Microsoft Excel. 
  4. Working knowledge of business analysis, process analysis, requirements specification, project management (waterfall and agile) and change management methodologies.
  5. Experience in some of: data management technologies including data lineage, business glossary, data catalogue; understanding data pipelines; analysing business process flows; using metadata tools for data lineage; data quality issue root cause analysis and data remediation planning; supporting Data and Analytics activities.


Remuneration & Benefits


Base Salary: $92,791 to $102,650 pa (HEW 7)


This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full time and appointment will be made on a continuing basis
