The Organisation

You will be working for an innovative and dynamic organisation dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of the community, committed to providing the highest levels of healthcare and services. The health service covers a population of approximately 116,000, across two major sites located approximately 50km apart. It is a University Teaching Hospital for the Rural Clinical School of the University of Tasmania.

The Emergency Department has an annual attendance rate of 28000 patients per year with 28% admission rate. The Department treats a broad range of patients including major trauma cases. It is the referral centre for several district hospitals. The Emergency Department is accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine for twelve months advanced training in Emergency Medicine with paediatric logbook. The ED is proud of its success in guiding candidates through the primary and fellowship examination.

The Job

As Emergency Medicine Registrar, you will be responsible for the day to day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients
You will have support from 9 FACEM’s in the department alongside other senior clinical staff, You will provide after-hours emergency care as determined by the relevant work unit
Your duties will include admission and care of patients and liaison with Specialist Medical Staff regarding patients and attending Specialist ward rounds
Registrar’s have involvement in educational activities and supervision of Residents, Interns and Medical Students
There is an opportunity for trainees that have completed their fellowship exams but require further ED time, to be rostered on the consultant roster with supervision, to ease their way into consultant practice and in addition be provided with clinical support time
There is opportunity to complete the emergency medicine certificate and diploma at this hospital

Requirements

MBBS or equivalent
Current General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) or eligibility for competent authority pathway
