The Role

Reporting to our General Manager - Corporate Affairs and Communications, the Head of Government and Public Policy will lead strategic thinking, planning and advocacy on a wide variety of complex political, government, public policy, industry and consumer issues in order to influence, promote and protect the business interests of MLC Life Insurance, and its customers and business partners

As a key member of the Corporate Affairs and Communications Team, you'll be responsible for developing and maintaining an up-to-date understanding of political and public policy issues likely to impact the commercial, operational, and strategic success of MLC Life Insurance.

In addition, you'll be responsible for:

  • Providing critical insight to the company's Leadership Team on changes in the political or regulatory environment around which MLC Life Insurance should develop an intentional response.
  • Ensuring key internal stakeholders are provided with the insights and information they need to keep informed and can adapt in keeping with new or looming changes to legislation, regulation, and related community requirements.
  • Coordinating and managing the political and public policy strategy and associated political engagement plan that supports the building of robust external relationships, underpins the company's strategic plan, including utilising effective advocacy skills, stakeholder mapping and political campaigning strategies and tactics.
  • Collaborating closely with the Senior Consultant, Media and External Communications to ensure the Company's policy positions are synchronised and disseminated effectively through media relations, external speaking opportunities and the like.

About You

You are a specialist practitioner of high quality, strategic and impactful political and policy campaigns with demonstrated experience in a similar role within an issues rich and highly regulated environment.

You will have strong experience and understanding of economic, fiscal, and other policy issues impacting the life insurance and financial services sectors. You will bring a deep understanding of the of the machinery of Federal government, including direct experience liaising at senior ministerial, departmental and trade association levels. Gravitas and credibility are part and parcel of your engagement skillset.

Your balanced set of skills includes critical and analytical thinking, positive interpersonal and influencing skills and sound commercial and political judgment in discerning potential impacts of policy changes.

An engaging and articulate communicator, your ability to work at pace in a dynamic environment will ensure success in this key senior leadership role.
